Following a routine for regular bike maintenance will mean that your bike is always in top condition. Cleaning and Lubricating
As folding bikes tend to have a lower ground clearance than regular bikes, it means that they are more prone to getting dirt clogging up the chain mechanism and also meaning the whole bike becomes dirtier over time. There are a few things that you will need when it comes to cleaning and properly lubricating your bike, these are:
- Either Dish Soap ( sensitive ) or Car Shampoo
- Chain Lubricant
- A Small Hose
Cleaning the Chain
When it comes to cleaning the chain of the folding bike it is important that you remove it from the bike using the quick link and place it to soak in a solvent mixture. Usually overnight will be a good time to leave it, once it has been in for the specified time, remove it and gently brush away the remaining debris and dirt from the links with a small brush.
Cleaning the Frame
The frame is simple and easy to clean, by simply applying some warm soapy water, simply use a cloth or sponge to wipe away the dirt and use a towel to dry it down once completed. You shouldn’t cause any rust as both the framework and the paint is very hard wearing.
Cleaning the Brakes
As the main job of the brakes is to help the bike stop, it is important that they are kept free of dirt and debris, as these could cause the bike to become inefficient under braking. The best way to wash the brakes is to remove the cables which hold them onto the frame and use a light degreaser on a light rag to wipe them down.

Adjusting the Seat
It is best to be comfortable whilst riding, especially on long journeys, that’s why it is important to have your seat set to the correct height and tilt. Ideally, your leg should be slightly bent whilst the pedals are at their lowest point, this will help to give the most power and a comfortable riding position.
In addition to adjusting your seat, it is recommended that you set your handlebars at a suitable height. It is recommended that the handlebars are set between 35 – 40 inches. However, it may be more or less depending on your height and body position when riding.
